Save money and the planet with Appliances Online

Legendary service meets sustainability: free removal and recycling of old appliances and packaging, saving your budget and the planet.

Legendary service so good, your budget will thank you.

At Appliances Online we pride ourselves on Legendary Service, this goes beyond standard last-mile delivery. With us appliance delivery is always free, no gimmicks, no limited time offers, you save on every purchase. Some retailers charge a separate delivery fee, which often covers just the drop-off at your door. In many cases, bringing an appliance inside - especially up stairs - can cost extra. With us, you get it delivered straight to where you need it, and avoid extra charges (and heavy lifting!) - typically saving at least $89.

As an online retailer orders are processed in real-time, we don’t outsource any of our supply chain. We set efficient delivery routes, and have our own fleet of delivery vehicles, with real-time tracking, so you can be sure that we’ll stick to our delivery times. In Auckland, for in-stock items you can rely on next-day delivery and once to twice a week in other delivery zones. Because if it’s an appliance replacement, you often need it now, not next month. Our delivery zones, cover the majority of the middle and upper north island. You can check these by popping your postcode into our delivery postcode tab from the homepage and searching.

As part of our free delivery service we’ll also remove and recycle any old and unwanted appliances, as long as it’s like-for-like. We’ve checked online and if your old appliance is typical (refrigerator / dishwasher/ washing machine), normally you’d expect to pay about $80–$150 to have it picked up and disposed of - more if it’s hard to access or you have multiple items. With scrap yards, they’ll do their best to pull all recyclable raw materials, but a lot of the time, these can also end up in the landfill. A fridge or washing machine won’t truly decompose in your lifetime - or your great-great-grandchildren’s. It can take anywhere from 200-1000 years to break down, and even then, not fully.

Why so long?
  • Metal parts (steel, aluminium) corrode very slowly underground without oxygen or moisture.

  • Plastic components (hoses, knobs, insulation) can last 500–1,000 years

  • Refrigerant gases (from fridges/freezers) can leak and damage the ozone layer if not safely removed.
Electronic elements (wiring, circuit boards) leach heavy metals like lead, mercury, and cadmium into soil and groundwater. Yikes!

That’s why recycling whiteware (through programmes like Appliances Online’s removal service or local e-waste centres) makes a huge environmental difference - metal and plastic parts can be separated, reused, and kept out of landfill altogether. The environmental benefits are obviously huge, which is why we take waste management seriously and even go the extra mile to also take care of packaging waste.

Boxes, soft plastics & yucky polystyrene.

At Appliances Online, we’ll also remove and recycle any single-use packaging materials for free. Whilst not an extra charge, competitors will leave this for you to sort out yourself. We all know that this can be a hassle, packaging waste is normally heavy duty cardboard, (yucky) polystyrene, soft plastics and hard plastics. These normally don’t fit into regular household recycling bins, and need to be cut down or disposed of in the proper way. Soft plastics (low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, etc.) in normal landfill conditions can take an astonishing amount of time to fully break down, like 500-1000 years releasing greenhouse gas emissions. So, whilst you might have thrown it away, and it’s out of sight, out of mind. It will leave an impact for future generations.

It makes a big difference where your packaging ends up, as to how long it takes to breakdown.

In a landfill:

  • Heavy-duty cardboard (like whiteware boxes from household appliances) can take up to 5 months to several years to break down.

  • In landfill conditions (low oxygen, compacted waste, and little moisture), decomposition slows dramatically, meaning it can persist for decades.

  • The glossy coatings or waterproof linings on appliance boxes also delay the process.

In a recycling centre:

  • Cardboard is one of the easiest materials to recycle - it’s pulped, cleaned, and turned into new paper or packaging and in some cases is compostable.

  • The entire recycling process takes a few weeks, and the material can be recycled 5–7 times before the fibres degrade too much.

If you use our Legendary Service, we’ll remove the packaging waste for you for free, removing the hassle and making sure that each packing material goes where it needs to go to break down or be recycled efficiently. This will also save you time and the hassle of having to do this yourself. Imagine if you’ve just moved house and have more than one new appliance to deal with - that’s a lot of waste to dispose of, and we’re sure you’d rather be enjoying your new home and appliances than dealing with waste. Whilst this isn’t a direct cost saving, it does go a long way to reducing our impact on the environment, and in New Zealand, we all like our nature, so if we can be tidy kiwis, whilst still lessening our impact on the environmental footprint, then why not.

In-House recycling and disposal facilities

At Appliances Online we handle all of our own recycling and have purpose built facilities and recycling machines to break down and recycle packaging and old appliances. This initiative also includes mattresses, as you can imagine they are a real challenge to recycle, with all the fibres, multiple layers, springs and wood elements. This is why we partnered and pioneered a new mattress recycling service with All Heart NZ, you can find out more about their soft furnishings and textiles recycling programmes on their website. A lot of the work that we do with All Heart NZ is about changing the narrative about how we speak about end of life products, this isn’t “waste” , end-of-life products can be reused, upcycled and repurposed in some cases into new products.

Beko, leading the way in circular economy

A great example of this is our appliance supplier Beko. Beko is absolutely leading the charge in sustainable appliances. Their eco-friendly appliances incorporate recycled materials such as PET bottles, fishing nets, and textile waste, reducing the environmental impact of production. Beko aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, with interim goals including using 100% green electricity in all manufacturing facilities by 2030. Additionally, their Reduce–Refurbish–Recycle program extends the lifecycle of appliances, minimizing waste and promoting a circular economy. Recognized as one of TIME Magazine’s 2025 World’s Most Sustainable Companies, Beko continues to lead in integrating sustainability into everyday living.

A great example of this is the Beko 9kg Front Load Washing Machine Graphite with Steam and WiFi. This machine has a recycled drum which is made primarily of recycled plastic. There are up to 60 0.5L recycled PET bottles in every washing machine and washer dryer* *excluding BFL7510W

If you’re in the market for the new washing machine, and would like to find out more about this and other Beko models, check out our listings below. Everything is included with our Legendary Service, saving you anywhere between $50 - $239 if you intend to dispose of an old appliance, not to mention any extra hassle of packaging waste disposal. Let’s save you some money, hassle and the environment - three birds, one stone!
